Advent Project – Babies in Bethlehem

The school and Faith Formation programs are jointly supporting the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem with the Babies in Bethlehem project.  Students will receive a Bethlehem Box to gather donations for the maternity and neonatal hospital located 500 yards from where Jesus Christ was born.  The hospital welcomes and cares for the poorest of the poor in Bethlehem.

Your family can make a difference this Advent season and share the gift of a safe and healthy birth with a mother and baby thousands of miles away. There are Bethlehem Boxes in the Narthex for parish members who would like to participate in this effort.  Please return them to the school or parish by December 22nd.  Thank you for your support.

Grades K-3 Advent Activities

As a unit, we want to plan advent activities to unify our students and instill the importance of the Advent season in them. Our theme is “Light the way for Jesus and we will be doing weekly advent activities throughout the season

Week One: Students will create a paper candle to signify us lighting the way for Jesus, and letting our own light shine while we’re at school. We will hang these candles on the wall in the main hallway of the school so our entire school community can see them and be thinking about ways to let their light shine.

Week Two: Students will participate in a prayer service and light a candle on the advent wreath.  They complete a service project: they will create Christmas cards/pictures that will be delivered to the Waunakee Manor

Week Three: Students will participate in a prayer service and light a candle on the advent wreath. They will enjoy a Christmas sing-a-long lead by the primary teachers.

Week Four: Students will participate in a prayer service and light a candle on the advent wreath. They will enjoy birthday cake to prepare for Jesus’s birthday on Christmas Day.

Grades 4-8 Advent Prayer Services

Students in grades 4-8 will be leading weekly Advent prayer services. Our focus will be on the Nativity of our Lord.

Students will raise/earn/collect money for the Bethlehem Boxes charity.

Each week students will be reading nativity Bible verse parts and lighting the Advent wreath as a community in the cafeteria.

On December 13th our upper unit community will be attending an Advent reconciliation service at the church.

We will conclude our Advent community meetings with grades 4-8 spending reflective time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration on Thursday, December 21st at the chapel.
